Joseph Vranas is a conductor of Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Chamber Music and has performed with various ensembles and music organizations such as The Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles, the Old Main Brass Choir, the Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, the Pacific Artists Collective, the Oregon Bach Festival Composer Symposium, and the Pride Bands Alliance.

This Summer 2024, Vranas will be participating in the first annual Tidewater Conducting Summit and Competition in Norfolk, Virginia and conduct the Sofia Philharmonic in Bulgaria as a part of the Sofia Symphonic Summit.

The Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles

Since 2022, Joseph Vranas has served as Artistic Director for The Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles, the second oldest LGBTQ+ community band in the world. With over 45 years of bringing together musicians to learn and perform in Concert, Marching, and Jazz bands, GFBLA continues to grow, sharing a mission of equality, inclusion, and love at various venues and events around Los Angeles.

Music Education

Vranas has worked extensively with after school music education programs such as Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), the Saturday Conservatory of Music, Harmony Project, and EduCare as a conductor of both youth orchestras and wind ensemble, Trumpet teaching artist, and lecturer in music philosophy, theory, history, and composition. With an engaging, mindful approach to music learning, Vranas has taught students from elementary through college and with varied backgrounds and experience. He has been recognized by the City of Bell, CA and the Texas Music Educators Association for excellence in teaching.
